I love how candlelight looks with glass candle holders. The glass catches the light and it shines and glows and looks so warm and inviting.
We’re familiar with the elegant glass candle holders, those beautiful pieces with intricate shapes, perfect examples of glass design artistry. Depression glass makers also made candle holders. Not all patterns of course, but some of our most popular lines included candle holders. This post we’re showing three from Jeannette, Iris and Herringbone, Floral Poinsettia and Windsor.
This first one is Iris. Jeannette used this same basic design for the Petal Swirl candle holders, an oval base with the design on the base and a fan between the two spread out candle arms. The design repeats on the fan with one exquisite iris blossom. I just listed this Iris candle holder in our store here (free shipping of course!)
One of my favorite patterns is Floral or Poinsettia. I like the mold etched design with big leaves and flowers even though it looks nothing like a poinsettia!
Jeannette’s Floral shape is similar to the candle holder in the popular Adam pattern. The Adam candle holder has different design and a square foot.
Aside from Iris, Floral, Swirl and Adam, the only Jeannette depression glass candle holder I could think of was this one in Windsor.
It’s fun to think about the family that owned your glass first. Did they use the candle holders at Christmas? Or maybe to add a touch of class to the Sunday dinner? We don’t know. We can start our own family traditions this year and use our vintage candle holders to make meals special.
