Did you tilt your screen to see this right side up? One of the hallmarks of depression glass is that it’s, let’s be nice here, not perfect. Most pieces have little blobs or glass or odd lines or raised seams or yes, wobbly stems. This sherbet is depression glass but it’s an odd pattern, Diamond Quilted.
Imperial Glass – the same company that made beautiful high quality Candlewick crystal – made Diamond Quilted. But where Candlewick was partially hand made, Imperial cranked out massive quantities of Diamond Quilted without any hand work at all. They made other depression patterns too, like Twisted Optic, and all of these are reasonably nice for being mass produced. My sherbet is a little more off kilter than other Diamond Quilted I’ve seen.
If you like pink depression glass and prefer the understated patterns more than the elaborately mold etched designs you might find Diamond Quilted to your taste. Diamond Quilted has not been reproduced or reissued so you don’t have to worry about fakes, you can find it online modestly priced and Imperial made a good assortment of pieces. If you do decide to try this pattern don’t forget to give my little wobbly sherbet a new home!
