Thank you for visiting this week’s Pink Saturday and a big thank you to Beverly of How Sweet the Sound for organizing this fun event.
Today’s featured pink pretty is Miss America pink depression glass salad plate from Hocking. Miss America is pretty and frilly and came in lots of pieces. People used this pattern for their Sunday good dishes, and why not. The pink is a soft candy pink with plenty of looks and the plates and bowls and tumblers look great together.
It’s odd Hocking did not make a Miss America candle holder since this design just glows in light and looks stunning with warm flickering candlelight.
This is a fun pattern to use and it isn’t particularly prone to nicks. You will want to check the rims of course to be sure the triangle scallops are intact, but the good news is the inner rims curve down instead of having a sharp drop off, so you won’t have much problem with inner rim roughness.
The sparkling little squares you see on the rim are made of little groups of four points on the outside and the center star is pressed on the bottom. The top surface is smooth. Of course plates that families cherished and used may show some wear, but that’s only a sign that people enjoyed these too.
Miss America is pretty in clear, too, especially with candlelight. The green is a soft shade, much lighter than the green used for Block Optic or Cameo, and Hocking made a few pieces in light blue plus Jade-ite and Royal Ruby.
Miss America is a good choice if you are looking for a pink pattern to collect. It’s moderately priced and you can find pieces, especially online, without too much difficulty. The most important factor is not price, it is what you like. If you like sparkle then Miss America is for you.
