It’s so much fun to go look for glass – and so much more fun when you find it. Let’s go antiquing together. I’ll show you what I bought and tell you a little about it and share the enjoyment from successful shopping.
This first piece is rare. How rare? Rare enough that were it in perfect condition this little sugar bowl would be sell for over $150. I don’t normally seek rare and exotic because I believe you prefer pieces you can use and enjoy without stressing too much about price. But this was such a find.
This I found in an eBay auction and was thrilled to get it. Cameo pink depression glass is scarce – I’d never seen it outside of books – and this shape sugar is my favorite. I like the cone shape and the neat foot. This just looks like pure art deco.
You could build a collection around this piece. I don’t mean just a collection of pink Cameo but maybe a collection of neat sugars or creamers, or rainbow colors of cameo, or pink depression glass. Or how about a set of cone shaped pieces, footed tumblers, sugar bowls, so on? That would be fun to collect and would display beautifully.
As soon as I opened the box I knew there was a problem. Several pieces were broken and this sugar bowl was cracked. Can you see the handle on the right side in the photo? I’m pretty sure this broke in transit. What a shame.
On the plus side I have owned a piece of pink Cameo, I’ve gotten the joy of oohing and aaahhing over beautiful glass, the thrill of finding something special online.
