I’m on a center handled server kick, can you tell? This week’s piece came from New Martinsville, this cut crystal elegant depression server with the charming floral spray cutting.
New Martinsville made Teardrop in crystal and a few colors – crystal is the most common and the only color I’ve had in stock – beginning in 1938. The pattern is easy to spot with the pointed oval tear drops raised around the inside.
The center handled servers have unique handles that look like a 5-lobed plume. It’s easy to pick up and hold, a good design for good looks and easy use.
New Martinsville used Teardrop as a blank for several etched designs and cuttings and they sold their glass to decorating companies. I think a decorating firm, not New Martinsville, did the cutting on my pretty server. Next post I’ll show the other Teardrop pieces we’ve had.
This handled server would be pretty holding Easter cupcakes or bunny cookies, or serving snacks on the patio this summer. Pieces like this can be stunning when you use them!
