Here’s a book on Fostoria Glass that is a little different than the others available. Ann Kerr combines stemware and dinnerware in this volume and covers the etched and cut decorations. She covers the pressed patterns in a separate book.
This book is called Fostoria: Identification and Value Guide to Etched, Carved & Cut Designs, Volume II
and that is exactly what you are getting. It is a guide to the designs, not to the overall pattern.
This is the first book on Fostoria, in fact the very first book on elegant glass of any sort, that I bought. It’s reasonably useful. The biggest downside is that only a minority of patterns show pictures of the decoration on a piece. It’s so helpful to see the pattern on a goblet or plate or bowl, and that is missing here.
Ms. Kerr shows line drawings of the decorations. The drawings are clear and easy to use.
She includes lists of pieces available in each pattern. The lists are likely not complete – some patterns have many obscure pieces – but it’s a good starting point.
Overall this is a reasonable book to buy if you either collect Fostoria or are looking for a fast way to identify designs.
