Last week I wrote about buying Princess pink depression glass from a lady in Lansing. I mentioned being concerned about the glass condition because Princess has point that can get nicked easily. I met her yesterday morning about half way between Lansing and our home and took back almost all her glass. Yes, there were many pieces with nicks, mostly small but enough to decrease the value, but overall it was a good experience and a good buy. She was very easy to work with and friendly. I hope she felt the same way about me.
One of the pieces we bought is this butter dish with lid. I don’t have it listed yet but it’s all photographed and I need to get it out. There is a bit of roughness on the side of the seam around the lid, but nothing bad I’m looking forward to putting this out.
I will have a few pieces of Princess topaz depression glass listed on auction later this week. I was pretty ignorant when I started and went to an auction where the auctioneer was not always clear whether he was doing a “choice out” where you are bidding on your choice of one item in a pile, or selling “all for one money” where you buy the whole thing. Needless to say, I paid “all for one money” price for one item, then compounded the error by agreeing to take four for the price of three. (Bad move.) I ended up with a lot of glass at very high prices and have gotten rid of most of it at a loss. There are just a few pieces of topaz Princess left.
