We went to the 2019 National Depression Glass show and picked up beautiful glass for our personal collection, including two Cambridge Apple Blossom pieces in amber. One was this gorgeous center handled server with a keyhole handle.
(Unfortunately I didn’t take pictures when we bought the glass and we got rid of my photo equipment when we moved. This is not the best picture!)
Cambridge made Apple Blossom in the their typical colors of the early 1930s, including light yellow, blue, pink, emerald. I’m particularly fond of amber glass so the only hard decision for us was which of his three pieces to purchase. The dealer had a spectacular square-ish rolled rim console bowl that I almost got but we decided it was ornate and would be less useful than the oval bowl with two handles shown below.
Here’s another view to show the shape better. The bowl is quite large and deep.
At time we bought this I had several places to display glass, now have fewer. I regret not buying the console bowl, especially now that we live where there are zero antique shops, glass shows or even estate sales. Right now the center handled server is on my coffee table where it looks gorgeous.
I saw the console bowl on eBay a while ago but decided that shipping here is too chancy. Perhaps sometime if we are back where mail is more reliable we’ll look for it again.
One reason I show these is that the glass show season is coming up. The National Depression Glass show is in Lee’s Summit, near Kansas City, July 8-9, and there are other shows around the country. If you want something special, or to enjoy looking at (and buying) beautiful glass, then take a look at the calendar on the NDGA.net page here, pick a show and go!
