Cambridge didn’t give this lovely border design a pattern name other than number 703. Author Gene Florence tagged it as “Florentine”, a pretty name for a lovely, graceful pattern.
We’ve had only one piece etched Florentine, this oval green center handled server.
There are several scroll etches from other companies than Cambridge and I wasn’t sure at first whether this was in fact number 703. I studied the design and the handle on this server to be sure it was indeed Florentine. See the double curled back part of the scroll that curls into the single curve? That is the part that convinced me. (The pattern photos in Florence’s Elegant Glassware of the Depression Era did not show the full pattern, which is fairly complicated.)
From what I can tell from researching books and online sites, Cambridge produced full dinnerware, stemware and many accessories with this etch. They used the usual colors of the era, amber, peach-blo pink, blue, crystal, all with and without gold trim or encrustation. They used the etch on several line numbers, notably 3060 for stemware.
