Quite a few of my Fancy Friday picks have been spectacular – Rose Point bon bon, Duncan Miller Sylvan candy dish, Chantilly compote – and a few, like today’s have been lovely little pieces, not expensive, just pretty enough to add a touch of fancy. Today we have the Caprice sugar bowl from Cambridge Glass.
Caprice is one of Cambridge’s pressed glass patterns. There’s rarely any etching or other decoration as the lovely crystal stands on its own. Cambridge made Caprice near the end of their life, from 1936 to 1958. I have only seen it in crystal but Cambridge made a full line of blue Caprice plus a few pieces of green or yellow. They used satin treatments on some too. Crystal accessory pieces like this sugar bowl or a bon bon, are fairly common at mid Michigan estate sales.
I picked this simple piece because I enjoy the rounded ribs and intricate little handles. I like the small feet and the overall happy feel of the piece. It makes me smile. That’s what Fancy Fun Friday is all about!
