Last post I showed off a newly acquired Cambridge Diane juice goblet and thought it would be fun to look at some of the other Diane etched pieces available. Personally we have had very few pieces of this pattern in stock; we see it once in a while but it tends to be expensive, more than we like to pay when we intend to resell the item. I think Cambridge Diane looks like high end glass and people respond to that look.
Although Cambridge used different stem lines for Diane than they did for the contemporaneous Rose Point or Chantilly, they did use the same dinnerware shapes.
Likewise Cambridge put Diane on the 3400 shape. (By the way, don’t feel bad if you need a program to tell the plate shapes apart. The 3900 and 3400 are quite similar. Shape 3900 has the optic rib while 3400 has pointed triangles. Personally I get a book out to tell them apart.)
Shape 3500, Martha, has a pie crust rim. It’s quite different from 3900 or 3400. From what I can tell from browsing reference books and sites it looks like Cambridge used the more ornate 3500 Martha shape mostly for accessory pieces in Diane, not plates or other standard dinnerware items.
Next post I’ll show a few other pieces of Diane, accessory and decorative items like candle holders.
