Our last two posts talked about one of my favorite types of glass, candle holders. Glass was made to hold candles! The candle light flickers and sparkles and looks like it is part of the glass. Let’s switch from depression glass to elegant Fostoria crystal and check out three of their lovely designs with the Romance etch.
First one is a favorite of mine, the pretty plume shape Sonata single holder. (can you tell I really like candle holders? They are all favorites!). This one glows with light.
You can get this same style with three candle cups. In my mind the three light isn’t as graceful as the single holder.
Fostoria made Romance beginning in 1942, about 6 years after they started producing Navarre and Meadow Rose, and during that time they switched from relying on the beautiful Baroque blank to using the sleek Sonata shapes. That’s why the Romance candle holders have the smooth, rounded plumes instead of the pointed wings that look like waves that we find on Navarre.
There are three other Romance shapes. I’ve never seen this one in person; it’s a simple column shape, quite plain, and fairly costly.
I don’t have a link for one of the shapes. It’s the classic, basic holder with a round base that holds one candle. Fostoria used this shape a lot!
The last Romance candle is the fun U shaped duo holder, also in Sonata. This one looks perfect for contemporary dinnerware. This shape is the only Romance candle holder we have in stock now, and it’s in our store.
The motto of The Christophers organization resonates with me: “It’s better to light a candle than to curse the darkness”. And if you are going to light a candle, then please, make it glow bright and put it in a gorgeous glass candle holder!
