When I was a kid every year my Mom assembled a large pillar candle, greenery, pine cones and small ornaments into beautiful holiday centerpieces. She put them on the tables in the living room, on the hearth and on the mantle. When she died I got some of her decorating supplies but mine sure don’t look as good as hers did.
What does that have to do with Pink Saturday? Everything and nothing. Candles remind me of my Mom. Dave and I seldom think to use them (barbaric of us) and in my memory my Mom had candles every year for Christmas. I looked through my pink glass to find something a little different this week and came across these candle holders. Aren’t they special?
This etch is one of those pretty designs that doesn’t have a name. The glass itself is from New Martinsville, a glass house active about the same time as Cambridge. The poor candle holders languished in my figure-this-out box for about a year before I did some research on square glass and found this shape. It is so pretty and the pink is so very nice, a true light candy pink, that it seems like the perfect piece for Pink Saturday.
And yes, my Mom would have liked this too.
