True, it’s better to light a candle than to curse the darkness, but why not do better and light a bunch of candles? Last post I showed two unusual crystal candle holders with curved handles. Today we have satin green candle holders with an intriguing twisted spiral shape.
I got these at an antique mall because they reached out and told me to take them HOME! So I did. And today I finally listed them for you here.
What’s so neat about these are the shape and the color. The column is twisted with a narrow ribbon running between the spirals that looks like ribbon candy. And the color! I love green and satin green is even better. Tiffin called this reflex green, do you think they wanted your reflex be to grab your pocketbook when you saw this color?? (Sometimes the color names make you wonder, don’t they?)
These are in my candle holder book (which got a lot of use this weekend) under U. S. Glass. U. S. Glass was a consortium of glass companies that included Factory R in Tiffin Ohio, which later became the independent Tiffin Glass Company. U. S. Glass included several other factories that made lower quality glass like depression patterns Diamond and Floral or Strawberry.
Tiffin, however, was known for high quality and lovely designs and etched patterns. These candlesticks are great examples as you can see the fine quality and smooth satin treatment. They look so soft and smooth you want to touch! Per my book these are line number 66 and date to the 1920s. Old indeed and very, very special.
