This Christmas Dave and I used our Blue Willow dishes instead of the Franciscan Apple dinnerware we used in 2010 and 2011. (You can see our 2010 Christmas dinner table here.)
Back when we got married we picked out the cobalt Argus tumblers from Fostoria for our crystal. We got a few tumblers for gifts and bought enough to give us a set of eight. We both liked the color and style for the tumblers but we never cared for the other pieces. Fostoria made a full set of Argus stemware plus a few other pieces like a lunch plate, small bowl, creamer and sugar. Fostoria Argus is not a dinnerware set.
Normally we use the tumblers when we’re not having wine, or else combine them with some informal goblets. We still like the gorgeous blue. This year I decided to mix our Rose Point crystal goblets. Hmm. I wasn’t real thrilled with the result.
The delicate Rose Point fights with the sturdy colonial styling of the Argus. I do like how the Blue Willow goes with both patterns. We enjoy using our good dishes and best glasses and the sterling flatware from my Mom. Using pieces with happy memories helps make each Christmas special.
If you look carefully in the back you can see the candle grouping with pine cones, picks and the big green pillar candle. My Mom made candle centerpieces each year that I try to replicate. I love using the real pine cones and the pretty little angel figurines from my grandmother.
What do you do that is special for Christmas? Drop a comment and let us know.
