Hazel Atlas made Cloverleaf in green, yellow, pink, crystal and black from 1930 to 1936. It’s one pattern everybody can recognize with its border of cloverleafs and ribbons. It’s a small luncheon or dinnerware pattern although the bowls are rather hard to find and pricey. Plus Hazel Atlas made tumblers, although not all sizes in every color and a covered candy dish in green only. They made two ashtrays in black only.
The only plate sized for dinner is the divided grill plate; the luncheon plates are 8 inches across. The other plate is the sherbet liner, 6 inches, perfect for a small dessert or bread and butter.
This photo shows the grill plate, candy jar, cup, straight 9 ounce tumbler and sherbets at a glass show. Notice the grill plate has cloverleaves swirling over the center, so attractive.
The sherbet liner plate is the same size as the saucer. The plate has a design in the center while the saucer does not.
Hazel Atlas made three tumblers in green, and one each in pink and in yellow. The 9 ounce flat tumbler is 4 inches tall and has straight, vertical sides. The 9 ounce flat tumbler is slightly shorter and has a flared rim. The third tumbler is footed and cone shaped, 5 3/4 inches tall and holds 10 ounces; it looks more like a soda glass or an iced tea in shape. The tumblers shown here are the flared rim, 10 ounce style.
We saw very little Cloverleaf when antiquing and most pieces were rather costly. Looking today (late April 2023), I see several pieces in yellow, green and black on eBay, including modest sets, a few tumblers and bowls. Prices online appear about in line with the prices in my 2010 Gene Florence Collector’s Encyclopedia of Depression Glass
We had so little Cloverleaf I cannot comment on wear or likely damage points. The pattern doesn’t appear to have many sharp ridges so check visually for wear and nicks and run your fingers along all edges and rims to find chips or roughness.
Cloverleaf remains popular for its cheerful colors, graceful shapes and happy design. If you like this consider shopping online as well as at glass shows and antique malls.
