I had a lot of fun mixing and matching different glass patterns and have several to show you in upcoming Tablescape Thursday posts. Today’s post shows the first and simplest one. This combines elegant glass lunch plates in crystal with pink and clear Miss America depression glass. I only used a few pieces of Miss America, just to see how the pink and clear, elegant and depression patterns look together. What do you think?
The clear lunch plates are elegant glass but I don’t know the maker or pattern. They are subtle, a good contrast for the splashier Miss America. The center is plain and the rim has a light optic flute, like a wide shallow rib. That optic rim is what catches the light and sparkles. I like the combination.
Here’s another view, just set back a bit so you can see more. Did you see the clear Miss America cup peeking off to the side?
It was fun putting different patterns and colors. I experimented with some rainbow tables, such as yellow and green Cameo, or pink and yellow. Some turned out great and a few, well, I’ll show them and you can decide. On a few tablescapes it was a good news / bad news thing. I photographed the table then sold the glass. It’s a running joke in our home that if I want to sell something all I have to do is plan a tablescape to use it! I’ll still show the tables that are interesting in future Thursdays.
I like these plates for dessert. They are a good size and a little different from the run of the mill china, yet they are unobtrusive and let your yummy dessert take center stage.
One last picture.
Miss America was many families’ “good dishes” during the depression. It’s a pretty, sparkling pattern with lots of pieces and neat shapes. A few pieces are downright rare today but you can put together a nice set to use. I like the square bottoms and the round tops on the sherbet, a bit of art deco in glass.
My thanks to Susan from Between Naps on the Porch for hosting this fun event.
