Jeannette Glass made their graceful Doric pattern in sufficient pieces to set a dinner table, including three relish tray variations and serving bowls. There is also a Doric oval platter and shakers to finish off the table, and a candy jar, candy plate, cake plate and coaster.
Oddly there is no Doric candle holder – Jeannette made candle holders in only a couple patterns.
The platter is 12 inches wide, oval, has no handles. Notice the raised rim on this photo at Replacements.
We had several pieces of pink Doric but never had the salt and pepper shakers. As with most depression glass patterns the lids are metal and may corrode. Pepper and salt both can discolor the interiors.
One thing I enjoy about depression glass is the designers’ attention to detail. Look closely at the finial on the candy jar lid here. The finial has the little Doric design around it. This loving detail makes the pieces so attractive.
There is also a low 3-part candy dish shaped like a pansy. I originally thought this was part of the Doric and Pansy pattern but it is Doric. It comes in several colors, including iridescent orange made in the 1970s. First let’s see the Delphite blue candy. Notice the Doric motif in the center.
Here is the iridescent candy dish from the 1970s when Jeannette re-issued several older patterns in iridescent marigold.
The cake plate is the flat style that has three little tab feet on the bottom. The flat top makes it good for frosting and cutting layer cakes and it is a good size at just over 10 inches wide.
Jeannette made a coaster too for Doric that is 3 inches wide, perfect to hold a glass and protect your table. My coaster photos date to the early 2000s when I used a Sony Mavica camera and didn’t have the proper lighting or background so I’m showing the green coaster linked from Replacements, much clearer. Notice the small ridges on the top side; these will prevent your glass from sticking to the coaster despite condensation.
I hope these lovely Doric pieces are tempting you to consider this depression glass pattern. The design is elegant and the colors, especially the green, are scrumptious!
