Here is a mystery piece. It’s a mystery because the pattern looks and feels like Fostoria’s Fairfax depression era glass. But every other piece of Fairfax blue glass I ever had was this lighter blue.
Very pretty, but you’ll agree it’s a different color. Could this be something else? Maybe Fostoria’s Lafayette, which had a few pieces of dark blue? Lafayette is all rounds and circles and the rims have a subdued scallop while Fairfax is more angular. Lafayette came in Regal Blue, cobalt blue. My bowl is a medium summer blue. Let’s rule out Lafayette.
None of my books shows this shape and size bowl in Fairfax in any color. At this point calling it Fairfax seems a bit foolhardy, but gosh darn it, this bowl says “Fairfax” every time I see it.
What else could it be?
If the bowl had points that protrude from the rim there are lots of choices, including some from Paden City. But it doesn’t. The rim is smooth. My bowl is good glass and it’s not new. It looks and feels like elegant glass from the depression era. The seams are smooth and it’s well made.
At this point I’m going to leave it listed in my store as Fairfax with a note that it’s not a known Fairfax color or size.
