Welcome to this week’s Fancy Fun Friday!
Here in Michigan we’re coming up to the Traverse City Cherry Festival, a celebration of all things Cherry. Michigan produces more sour cherries than all the other states combined and is #3 for yummy sweet cherries. Cherries and cherry blossoms are a very big deal here.
That makes this week’s Fancy extra appealing: Jeannette Cherry Blossom green depression glass sherbet. This is the perfect piece to make a plain bowl of ice cream into a fancy dessert. Add fresh strawberries or hot fudge for a special treat.
It used to be every home had sets of sherbets. Families used them for sherbet (of course), fruit salads, melon cups, sliced berries and of course, ice cream. We’ve gotten away from that and maybe it’s time to reconsider the humble sherbet. Depression glass sherbets are smaller than the gargantuan bowls you might be tempted to use (always a good way to control portions) but the main reason to rethink special sherbets is they are perfect for desserts.
When you get dessert in a restaurant they take special care to serve it. That elevates any dessert into something memorable and gives you a great close to the meal.
What’s more inviting on a hot summer day than a dish of your favorite ice cream served in a Fancy Fun sherbet?
