Welcome to Fancy Fun Friday, our weekly blog party featuring those little touches that add fancy to our homes and lives. This week it’s horribly hot here in mid-Michigan and time for a cool, refreshing salad. Naturally we’ll serve it in a fancy bowl, like this Fostoria Italian Lace one.
This looks fancy but it’s actually not so elaborate as it appears. The design is called Italian Lace or Gold Lace and it’s a pretty etch. There are vestiges of gold around the rim, enough to show it’s vintage and not enough that you feel like you’re using the Good Dishes. It’s fancy, yes, but usable and fun.
Fostoria Glass made Italian Lace in the late 1930s and changed the name to Gold Lace about 1942 and discontinued it shortly afterwards. It apparently was not a dinnerware or stemware pattern since you will find only accessory pieces. Perhaps they marketed it as gift ware. It’s a nice summery pattern with big white flowers.
This is my idea of something fancy and fun. What’s yours?
