My Floral Trumpets sherbet had the most lovely bell-like ring when touched. The crystal was clear and the shape lovely and simple, perfect for this unusual flowing design.
The design features four odd-shaped trumpets that have long stems with many flowers that float out along the rim. The trumpets start at the base of the sherbet bowl and flow upwards at a slant, a lively and intriguing etch.
Central Glass Works: The Depression Era, by Tim Schmidt, an excellent guide to the Central Glass patterns, mentions two comports, a nut dish/finger bowl and a decanter in addition to stemware. I’ve seen only the sherbet pictured. I don’t recall where we bought it but likely at an estate sale.
One of the ads in Tim Schmidt’s book shows Floral Trumpets as a new line for 1917. This is one of the early elegant etches and Central would have produced stemware and possibly accessory pieces, but not dinnerware.
Floral Trumpets is not a well-known pattern to put it mildly nor do the major general elegant glass reference books cover it. I’m a real sucker for obscure patterns – especially Central’s which tend to be unique and lovely – and was very glad to find the sherbets. Central’s patterns are so unique that I started to look for them.
Floral Trumpets is not an easy pattern to find and you might consider including a few pieces along with other patterns if you want a set of vintage stemware. I found no pieces on eBay, Etsy or Replacements when I checked just now (October 2022), so unless you are fortunate to find a collection for sale it will take a long time to build up a set.
