Fostoria lists this cute little bowl as the mayonnaise bowl in their Romance pattern. Even allowing for larger families, it seems like a lot of mayonnaise!
The bowl itself is just under 5 inches wide and 2 1/2 inches tall, a nice size we’d use today for serving a fruit salad for a couple of people. This is the Sonata blank, a classic, good looking pattern with simple shapes for plates and bowls.
By the 1940s and 1950s Fostoria had gotten away from the elaborate footed bowls for mayo and was using simpler designs like this round, smooth bottom bowl. Here’s what the mayonnaise set looks like, complete with liner plate, ladle and bowl. Elegant!
