Last week I bought a large set of Fostoria Romance etched crystal, mostly stems with a few serving pieces. I like Romance for its graceful pattern of flowers tied in ribbons and bows, the lovely clear crystal and clean lines of the Contour blank.
Fostoria made Romance into the 1960s so it is more available and affordable than the earlier June etch. This is a bonus for sure, especially today when people enjoy having pretty glassware and using something a little unique on their dinner table but don’t want to break the bank buying a set of goblets.
The shallow bowl pictured is called a lily pond. The idea is you could float flowers or put a frog in the center and use for a modern arrangement. Some people did both.
When I first got this bowl my husband – who is not a glass lover – liked it so much he put it on the cupboard to hold fruit. (I store all my inventory for sale wrapped carefully and in boxes so had to retrieve it and replace with a piece of art pottery. ) It looked great with fruit and that’s an easy way to use this shape.
Shopping information: We have this bowl listed in our eBay store Vintage Elegant Depression Glass and our larger store at Cat Lady Kate’s Elegant and Depression Glass.
