It’s been a busy and sad week here due to a death in the family. I love glass and it makes me smile; it helps me to hold such lovely, vintage pieces but it’s been difficult to find time to write .
Last week at the depression glass show I had an opportunity to see glass patterns that are hard to find around here. I didn’t see a lot of this old favorite, Georgian Lovebirds from Federal Glass.
I like Georgian for its color – green is one of my favorites – and the nice swags. The pattern alternates medallions with birds and baskets, all connected with chained swags and a pebbled band. The glass itself feels a little thicker than some other Federal patterns like Normandie. Georgian reminds me of Sharon with the clear sections and slightly thicker glass.
Federal made a full Georgian dinnerware set with basic serving pieces but no accessory pieces. You can get a butter dish and a cold cut server, but there is no candle holder, pitcher or candy dish. There are several sizes of flat tumblers that are fun to look for. The piece shown is the Georgian Lovebirds green depression glass lunch plate, a fun and easy piece to use.
