This week’s pick is one of my favorite pieces, this Buttercup etched sugar bowl from Fostoria Glass. I like it because the shape is so simple and the etch is so pretty. It caught my eye last week when I picked the Fostoria Heather iced tea (you can read about that one here: Glass Pick of the Week: Fostoria Heather Iced Tea Tumbler
Creamers and sugars are fun little pieces and they are great if you aren’t able to have a full set of one pattern, or if you’re like me and you like way too many patterns to pick just one. You can easily stash several sets without taking up much room. In fact you don’t even have to match the creamer and sugar, but can mix and match the patterns. That makes it easier to get several patters so you can live with them before you decide on a favorite.
Buttercup is another etch that Fostoria used on tons of pieces. The stemware is the 6030 shape that has a ridged stem and little knobs at the top. The ridges actually remind me of vanes that stick out a bit, more than grooves.
They used the Sonata shape for plates and this sugar bowl. Sonata is very simple, round, curvy shapes. Handles on small pieces are simple, as you can see on the sugar bowl. Larger handles, as you would see on a center handled server or large bowl, are thick, shaped like plumes and look incredible.
I hope you enjoyed our pick this week!
