Is it Meadow Rose or is it Navarre? How can you tell? These are two of the most popular Fostoria designs and they look a lot alike. Read this to learn how to tell them apart.
Fostoria Glass made both patterns on the same blank, which is a fancy way to say they used the same shapes for both etchings. The tumbler above is Meadow Rose and the claret wine goblet below is Navarre. Look closely at the patterns.
Do you see the scrolls and swags around an empty space in Meadow Rose? Navarre has a bouquet of three flowers dangling upside down in place of that empty center. The scrolls and swags are different on the two patterns too, but that bouquet is easy to spot and a never fail test.
The best advice is to pay attention to the etched design. Is there an upside down dangly bouquet? If yes then it’s Navarre. Is there a central blank space surrounded by swags? Then it’s Meadow Rose.
Both patterns are beautiful; both are fine quality crystal from Fostoria; you can find lots of pieces which makes it fun to collect. They are even fairly even in terms of price. Pick whichever you like: You’ll enjoy it.
