I bought this thinking it might be Fostoria Fairfax, even thought it didn’t look quite right. The shape of the bowl is too rounded in the base, not like any of the Fairfax bowls we’ve seen, and the rim isn’t quite right.
Fostoria Fairfax?
This bowl has the right optic on the rim, but it is round, the rim flows in a circle, while Fairfax has sides, and each section between the optic looks like a small panel. Here is my mystery bowl looking down from the top to see the shape even better.
Here is a Fairfax plate for comparison, topaz with a Trojan etch. The rim is not round.
New Martinsville?
New Martinsville line 34 has a similar optic, but it’s not a match because the optics on Line 34 end in little points. Replacements has the dinner plate.
Wanted: A Name!
So, what is this? Who made it and what is the pattern name? It is good quality glass but does not have a ground base rim so it could be from one of the medium-grade houses that made nice glass but omitted hand work. It’s not in any of my books on New Martinsville, Imperial, Central or Paden City.
Any guesses? Leave a comment with your ideas please!
