Welcome to Pink Saturday and a little different post than usual. Remember when the friendly skies really were friendly? When an airplane trip was unusual? When you got dressed up to travel? When the airlines served real food on real china dinnerware?
This pretty soup bowl is from United Airlines and will take you back in memory to the days when flights had two or more stewardesses (not flight attendants) who carefully served you dinner. The rim has a narrow stripe of pink with a stylized set of wings, a good contrast to the glossy white body.
Isn’t this fun? Plus this is a good size for a soup or salad bowl, big enough for that chicken Caesar salad you like for a light dinner.
Collectors have pursued china from restaurants, ship lines, hotels, clubs, railways and airlines. And why not. The china was made to be used so it is durable; it was part of the branding so it is attractive. And it brings back smiles when we remember those happy trips and good times travelling.
Thanks for visiting our Pink Saturday pink depression glass post this week, and as always a big thank you to Beverly of How Sweet the Sound for organizing this fun event. Please be sure to visit the other bloggers to see how pink we can be.
