Welcome to this week’s Pink Saturday. Today we have the Sharon pink depression glass tumbler. Federal Glass made several Sharon tumblers, including four different flat tumblers and one footed tumbler. The flat tumblers are puzzling. There are two that are the same height and hold 9 ounces and two that hold 12 ounces. The only difference is how thick the glass is.
You are left wondering why there are two different versions. Was one thickness made earlier? Did Federal rework their molds to make the tumblers sturdier? I don’t know and didn’t find any answers when I did a bit of research. It’s a puzzle.
Regardless whether you like thick or thin, the tumblers are compatible with each other. They are the same dimensions and you notice the thick vs. thinness when you pick them up. The thicker ones are said to be more scarce but
Like most depression glass patterns Sharon tumblers are among the less common pieces. Even so Sharon is a moderate priced pattern and the pink flat tumblers are under $50. You can mix and match the thick and thin and buy the tumblers over time. That’s what makes depression glass fun to collect: You can enjoy searching for it, enjoy finding it, enjoy using it even just a few pieces at a time.
We have quite a bit of Sharon including this pink tumbler in our store Cat Lady Kate’s Elegant and Depression Glass.
Thanks for visiting our Pink Saturday pink depression glass post this week, and as always a big thank you to Beverly of How Sweet the Sound for organizing this fun event. Please be sure to visit the other bloggers to see how pink we can be.
