Recently a lady contacted me about buying her mother’s set of Princess depression glass. Of course I’m interested in this – Princess is a good depression glass pattern and I don’t have much.
Most weeks I get a couple inquiries about buying glass and I’ve learned to ask the person for a list of the pieces and the condition. So far only about a dozen people have followed through. Once I have the list, I can decide whether I’m interested and then either make an offer or find out the person’s price.
As a dealer, condition is absolutely critical. I sell glass online which means my customers must trust me to check the pieces for damage – however slight – and be their fingers and eyes. My strategy is to provide absolutely accurate information and any nicks or rough spots or wear can drastically reduce the value of vintage glass.
The lady with the Princess glass has a great selection and reported all but one piece is perfect. She even lives nearby but we haven’t connected yet due to vacation. I’m anxious to see her glass and to buy it from her. I’m hoping the glass is as good as described. I know from sad experience that it is very easy to miss small nicks or scratches but this person took each piece out and inspected it. I will inspect before buying, but what is not to like about holding and buying depression glass?
I’ll keep you posted!
