If you read this blog then you know I’m a fan of relish dishes and divided serving pieces. You’ve seen depression glass relish dishes, etched relish trays, pink relish trays, crystal relish trays… and the list goes on. The one today is a knock out.
This is Fostoria Glass Heather etch. The pattern it’s etched on is called Century in honor of Fostoria’s 100 year anniversary (they anticipated the date a bit) and has those gentle S-shaped curlicues around the rim. This particular piece is a super size for an intimate dinner with friends where you don’t need the gargantuan tray, just something small and pretty.
If you don’t feel like relishes then you could use one side of this for dip, then you’ll find the handles add a special touch and make this easy to pass without getting dip on you.
Fostoria made Heather in a wide range of pieces and for over 20 years, beginning 1949 and lasting through 1971, so it must have been popular then. For some reason it isn’t as sought after as some contemporaneous Fostoria glass, which keeps it affordable, yet you can find Heather online without too much searching.
