Remember summer, how fleeting and warm? Here in mid-Michigan summer is long past and we’re staring winter in the face. This beautiful glass pattern is June, a perfect name for a beautiful piece that will remind you of the blue sky on a summer morning.
Fostoria Glass made June from 1928 to 1944 in Topaz yellow, Rose pink, azure blue and crystal. I showed the pink goblet last week’s Pink Saturday post and today it’s time for the beautiful, choice azure blue candle holder to take center stage. June is beautiful in all the colors but to me the blue or topaz evoke summer time.
Fostoria made several shapes of candle holders – remember this was the era where glass companies did nothing by halves and had multiple versions of each piece – and this one is the most special. The scroll top is pure Art Deco. The ribbons and bows pattern is etched on the base of the candle and the winged edge curves up to form the scrolls. You might find shorter candle holders with the same scroll design. The shorter ones look all curled up, while this taller version is more exuberant and made for fun.
Fostoria used this scroll candle holder shape for several etches, including Versailles, Trojan and Kashmir. The candle holders look great with all of the console bowls and are knock outs with the scroll handled oval bowls.
This candle holder is the one in the photo on our blog. I thought it was too pretty to keep the photo aside in a listing so put it out to share with you.
