A couple months ago we found a Royal Lace pink creamer and sugar set at an antique show and I didn’t buy it. I didn’t have a good feeling about the pieces although they appeared perfect and we’d already spent the budget buying Rose Point crystal. The blog post about that antiquing trip is here.
Last month Dave and I went to a yard sale cum flea market and found several lots with depression glass creamers and sugars, including the Petalware cremax one posted here and this pretty Royal Lace footed sugar bowl.
I like Royal Lace, especially blue and green. The pattern is exceptional, with the intricate panels of flowers that look like they are surrounded by open lace and the chevron design on the foot. Hazel Atlas made full Royal Lace dinnerware sets and many accessory pieces like the candle holder pictured.
Hazel Atlas made just about all the pieces in crystal, blue, green and pink, plus a few pieces of amethyst. Crystal Royal Lace is a good choice especially to mix with the other colors as it’s relatively inexpensive and available. Blue is enticing but also the most costly. You can set a lovely table with mixed colors, or mix in other depression glass patterns as done here. I only had a couple pieces of Royal Lace at the time and mixed in Aurora and Moderntone in the same blue glass.
