We’ve been fortunate to have two of Cambridge’s low, ruffled four-footed bowls to offer our customers. This first one is Elaine – notice the diagonal scroll in corner between the flower blossom sprays.
The ruffled bowl is flatter and more shallow than the regular four-footed square bowl which is this next one. I don’t know whether the Cambridge artisans started with this square, taller bowl and pushed it down and crimped the edges to make the shallow bowl, or started from a different piece altogether.
This size is meant to anchor your table display as a centerpiece or as a high-impact serving bowl. Float flowers or heap it will a big fruit salad for a tremendous impact. Cambridge made Elaine in dinnerware, and this is one of the serving bowls so go ahead and use it.
Here’s the same bowl with the Roselyn etch, a much less well-known pattern made for just a few years (1951 to 1956) overlapping the last few years of Elaine’s long manufacturing run (1933 to 1954).
You can see the bowls are slightly different. The Cambridge glass workers made the ruffled edge partially by hand so each one is unique!
