Welcome and thank you for visiting. Also thank you Susan of Between Naps on the Porch for hostessing this fun Tablescape event each week.
This week we’re using a different green depression glass pattern, Florentine or Poppy from Hazel Atlas. This is another of my favorites for its exuberant design of poppies strewn all over the pieces. I like flowers and this is so summery and fresh.
One thing you can see right off is this is hard to photograph! Here is an up close photo of a cup. It is still a little hard to see but you can get a better idea.
Can you see a difference in the shapes of the cups between the single one and the cups in the tablescape? The tablescape cups are Florentine #1, which has the identical design as Florentine #2, but on a different shape. The cups are the only Florentine #1 on our green dinner table, the other pieces are round and are Florentine #2. Personally I like the #1 cups better with the round dinner plates.
Hazel Atlas made both Florentine patterns during the depths of the depression, 1932 to 1935, and brightened peoples’ lives with sparkling yellow, soft pink, this luscious green and clear glassware all full of poppies. You can see why people enjoyed this glass during the depression and why we collect it today.
Thank you for visiting us.
