About a third of the standard depression glass patterns include candle holder – think of Queen Mary with its cactus-shaped holder or the interesting Adam and Floral holders from Jeannette – and Hazel Atlas included three different shapes in their beloved Royal Lace pattern.
All three Royal Lace candlesticks are shaped like small bowls with the candle cup in the center. The difference is in the rim, whether it is rolled, ruffled or plain. Hazel Atlas made large bowls to match each of the candle holder rim styles, so imagine how great a console set would look with a bowl flanked by the matching candlesticks.
This first candle holder, which is the only one we have, is the rolled rim style. Imagine this with a few sprigs of flowers nestled in the cup part. So elegant!
Unfortunately I do not have photos of the other shapes. You can see them on Replacements.
The candlestick with the plain rim is basically the same shape as the one shown above, except the rim is neither rolled nor ruffled. The ruffled rim on the third shape is more slightly waved than ruffled.
I like the rolled rim style the best because they remind me of rolled rim console bowls which are among my favorite pieces of vintage glass. Which is your favorite shape?
