Yesterday I shared a tip for help you distinguish real Cherry Blossom depression glass from reproduction glass. I showed you a picture of the realistic looking leaves and cherries that the pattern must have to be authentic. I don’t have any pieces with the “canal leaves” to show you.
You can read the blog post here:
Cherry Blossom Depression Glass – Real vs. Reproduction Leaves
Remember, all Cherry Blossom will have the realistic leaves, but some reproductions also have well-done leaves.
Here’s another tip. All real Cherry Blossom handled pieces will have a raised, V-shaped oval bump on the top of the handle where you put your thumb. Some reproduction cups have a smooth handle instead.
Here is what the handle should look like.
By the way, there is a downside to the authentic handle. That little ledge around the base of the raised bump can get nicked. You always want to check that edge since it sticks out and is thin glass.
