When you were little did you have dishes for your dolls? Mine were Blue Willow, what were yours?
Glass and china makers often made child sized versions of their popular patterns for doll tea parties and children’s toys. One of the cutest is the Pretty Polly pink depression glass set from Jeannette.
Pretty Polly is the same pattern Jeannette sold for adults called Doric and Pansy. This is a intricate pattern with lots going on. The motif is a row of squares that alternate with a simple geometric design (Doric) with pansy flowers (Pansy). This repeats down the cup.
Jeannette made other depression glass patterns into children’s sets, Cherry Blossom is one. One of the best points about Doric and Pansy – especially compared to Cherry Blossom – is there are no reproductions. If you find Doric and Pansy then you found depression glass.
The child’s cup is about half the size of the adult cup, 1 1/2 inches tall compared to the full size which is over 2 inches tall. It is shaped a little differently too, more elongated. Maybe it is easier for dolls to sip from wider cups or their little girls can share the cup better.
Thanks for visiting our Pink Saturday pink depression glass post this week, and as always a big thank you to Beverly of How Sweet the Sound for organizing this fun event. Please be sure to visit the other bloggers to see how pink we can be.
