Viking Glass was known for their innovative shapes and on-trend colors. They made some interesting flowerlite pieces that held flowers and candles together. This is another of their combination pieces, the peg bottom bowl and dual-purpose convertible candle holder.
The green color is so perfect for Christmas. Imagine this with flowers or sparkly silver balls and silver candles. If you don’t want to use the green bowl remove it to have a candle holder with three tapers.
Viking made other pieces with peg bottoms that fit in the center slot, including a cone shaped vase. I’ve never seen that piece and know about it only from a 1952 advertisement reproduced in my Viking Glass 1944-1970 book by Dean Six.
I found this at an antique show this fall and knew it was Viking just by the style. Still, it was gratifying to find it in the book, albeit only in the small advertisement. I wonder how successful this line was for Viking?
