What do you like to drink? Water, soda or lemonade? Milk, juice or ice tea? If your house is like mine you go through a lot of glasses during the day. There are only two of us and we fill the dishwasher top rack every day.
So you go through all those glasses and it would be nice to have some special ones. It’s hard sometimes to find glass tumblers that look nice, feel good in your hand and are maybe a little special. I particularly like depression glass tumblers and stemware. It’s special.
This is a depression glass tumbler. Think what that means. Someone – or a bunch of someones – had this, used it and did not break it. For 75 years. People in the depression took good care of things. They had to because if something broke it was gone. Using an old tumbler like this sure makes your morning OJ or that afternoon lemonade different. When I use my vintage glasses it gives that glass of ice water significance.
I showed this in a previous Tablescape Thursday post along with Doric depression glass. This pattern blends surprisingly well with others so you don’t need a full set to feel special and get that sense of connection to the past.
The tumbler shown is 4 inches tall and the original owners would have used it as a water glass because it holds 9 ounces. Jeannette Glass made this from 1936 to the end of the depression in pink and the pattern is Windsor. Jeannette must have wanted to capitalize on the fascination Americans had with British royalty when they named it.
Thank you for visiting this week’s Pink Saturday and a big thank you to Beverly of How Sweet the Sound for organizing this fun event.
